STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team returns to the welcoming atmosphere of Harry A. Gampel Pavilion after a successful weekend to host Northeastern on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Led by sophomore Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) and freshman Mattison Quayle (Los Angels, Calif.) the Huskies look to even their overall record (5-6) in front of a home crowd.
Kirk pulled in her first-ever BIG EAST accolade with a spot on the weekly honor roll on Monday. She leads the team with 2.67 kills per set and started last week with her third career double-double. The outside hitter has presented a balanced effort his season adding 1.22 digs per set to her consistent attacking effort.
On Saturday, Quayle shattered her career-high in kills with 21 against Creighton. In addition to tallying a career-high kill total, the rookie outside hitter set career-highs in hitting-percentage (.405) and digs (11) verse Creighton. She had a career-best weekend, matching her assist and block career-highs earlier on Saturday against Samford.
Northeastern (4-4) breaks from tournament play to visit Storrs as the team looks to break .500. After starting the season with a three-match winning streak, the Northeastern Huskies hit a bit of a skid during its trip to the West Coast. The Huskies lost three-straight three-set decisions, including a pair of losses to nationally ranked UC Irvine and Long Beach State.
Senior co-captains Jessica Tkachuck and Leah Neubeck were named to the Crusader Classic All-Tournament Team after Northeastern split the weekend against Holy Cross and Boston College.
The first 100 fans to arrive at Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday will receive a ice cream sundae in honor of Student Appreciation Night. Connecticut Volleyball fans can still join the "Block Party" by contacting Libby McCormick (email@example.com).
