Volleyball Begins Conference Play on Wednesday

STORRS, Conn. - After earning seven wins in 11 non-conference matches, the University of Connecticut volleyball team begins American Athletic Conference play on Wed., Sept 24 at 7 p.m. at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.

The Huskies are coming off a 2-1 weekend at the 2014 UConn Invite, finishing second in the tournament. Seniors Sage Esposito (Milford, Conn.) and Brianna Datti (Durham, N.H.) were named to the All-Tournament team following Saturday's championship match against Hofstra. Freshman Kenya Cason (Columbus, Ohio) shined for the Huskies against the Pride, posting career-highs in kills (19) and service aces (4).

Through 11 matches, senior tri-captain Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) has paced the Husky offense with 2.82 kills/set and also delivered a team-best 14 aces. Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) has notched 51 total blocks (1.13 per set) and is one of three Huskies with 100-plus kills. Rebecca Rivera (Mississauga, Ontario) is averaging a team-best 5.82 assists per set while Datti is averaging 4.58 digs/set.



The Huskies and Owls have met on the court on nine different occasions, with Temple holding a 7-2 all-time series edge. Last season, the Owls swept a pair of matches against Connecticut.

This season, Temple is off to a 9-3 start and most recently took home the Big 5 Tournament title after recording three-straight sweeps over La Salle, Villanova and Penn. Junior setter Sandra Sydlik was named the tournament MVP, and was joined on the Big 5 All-Tournament Team by sophomore middle blocker Kirsten Overton

The first 50 UConn students attending the match will receive a free UConn cup and will have a chance to win a Subway gift card.

UConn Falls To Temple On Senior Day
The UConn women's volleyball team was unable to avenge an early season loss to American rival Temple, losing to the Owls on Sunday afternoon in straight sets (25-18, 25-21, 25-20) on the Huskies' Senior Day at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
