STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 4) -- University of Connecticut freshman middle hitter Sadé Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST volleyball rookie of the week by the conference office on Monday. This is the first career conference honor for Chambers and the teams first weekly award of the 2004 season.
Chambers was a key contributor for UConn last week as the Huskies posted a record of 2-1. She was an all-tournament choice at the BIG EAST Challenge in New Brunswick, N.J., committing only one error in 24 total attacks versus Boston College. For the week, Chambers recorded 31 kills, nine blocks and a hitting percentage of .441.
In Connecticuts 3-0 victory over Fairfield last week, Chambers hit .312 and recorded seven kills with two digs and two blocks. Against Villanova, she totaled 11 kills, five blocks, and hit .474 for the match.
UConn returns to the court on Wednesday, October 6, and will play host to Quinnipiac with the match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
