UConn (9-6, 2-2 The American) is coming off a tough weekend in Florida, falling in back-to-back matches to USF and UCF. Sophomore outside hitter Jade Strawberry posted 14 kills and 12 digs throughout the weekend, while Erika Thomas (Ocoee, Fla) inched towards 300 career blocks (293), with five total blocks on the roadtrip. Thomas is attempting to become just the seventh Husky player to notch 300 rejections.
The Huskies and Tigers have met on the court on three occasions with Memphis holding a slim 2-1 all-time series lead. Last season, UConn split a home-and-home with the Tigers, most recently downing their conference foes, 3-0, on Nov. 22, 2013. Junior middle blocker Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) rose to the occasion for Connecticut, putting together a 12 kills, eight-block afternoon to go along with a .440 hitting percentage.
Cincinnati owns a 9-3 all-time series edge against the Huskies, dating back to Big East Play, but Connecticut swept its season series with the Bearcats in 2013, including a 3-2 win in its season finale.
The Huskies have fared well at home this season, putting together a 5-2 record. In addition, the Huskies are 9-2 this season when winning the first set and have out-scored opponents 353-to-317 in the opening frame.
