STORRS, Conn. –
Junior outside hitter Danielle Cabel has been named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, following two straight career-best performances over the weekend against SMU and Tulsa.

Cabel, the first Husky this season to earn a major conference award, recorded 16 kills in both matches against the Mustangs and Golden Hurricane – a career-high mark for the third-year player.

In the loss to SMU on Friday, Cabel had 16 kills on 24 attacks and a .500 hitting percentage. On Sunday, she had another 16 kills, a match-high, in a straight-set win over Tulsa, recording a season-best .652 hitting percentage.

It is the first conference award of Cabel’s UConn career, which began in her sophomore season after she transferred from Iowa following her freshman year. She has the third-most kills on the team (2.34 per set) and fourth-best hitting percentage (.297) this season.

Cabel has reached double-digit kills in four matches this season (Colgate and Loyola Maryland – both UConn wins).

The Huskies (13-4, 4-2 American) split this past weekend, but now look forward to a home stand against UCF on Friday at 4 p.m. and USF on Sunday at 12 p.m.

The match against UCF precedes First Night, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Doors open for the night’s festivities at 3:00 p.m.
