PITTSBURGH, PA (Oct. 20, 2000) -- For the first time since 1996, the University of Connecticut womens volleyball team dropped a match to Pittsburgh, as the Huskies were defeated Oct. 20 in three matches. The victory ups the Panthers record to 17-8 overall and 3-2 in BIG EAST play, while UConn falls to 12-9 and 3-2 in the conference.

Janice Dykema (So., MH, Kalamazoo, MI) was one of three Connecticut athletes to reach double figures in kills as she led the squad with 12. Stephanie Schindel (Sr., OH, Diamond Bar, CA) and Melissa Wooley (So., OH, Ridgecrest, CA) matched each other as they recorded 11 in the category. Schindel also led the team in digs with 12, giving her a double-double for the third straight match and her 10th on the season. Julie Erbez (Fr., S, Stockton, CA) helped guide the offense as she posted a team leading 41 assists. Her total for the year, 697, now stands just 34 away from cracking into the schools single season top ten list as Kara Brown had 731 in 1991.

UConns 17-day road swing concludes Sunday, Oct. 22, as it travels to Morgantown, WV, to take on West Virginia. Despite dropping the first meeting between the two programs on Nov. 11, 1989, the Huskies have reeled off six straight wins since.
