Mattison Quayle Garners Weekly ECAC Award

Junior Mattison Quayle is this week's ECAC Player of the Week.

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - After being named the BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday, University of Connecticut junior Mattison Quayle has been tabbed as the ECAC Division I Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending October 16.

Quayle, an outside hitter from Los Angeles, Calif., sparked the Husky attack with 41 kills in a 2-0 week.  She matched a career-high woth 21 kills in a four-set win over Fordham and followed that up with a 20-kill, 11-dig effort to record her team-leading fifth double-double in a 3-1 win over St. John's.

UConn looks to pick up momentum as it enters the gauntlet of its BIG EAST schedule beginning with a game tonight at 7:00 pm against Villanova.  The Huskies are also in action on Sunday at 2:00 pm against Georgetown.

Division I
Player of the Week
Mattison Quayle – University of Connecticut
Junior, Outside Hitter, Los Angeles, Calif.
Quayle led the Huskies to a 2-0 record last week, averaging 5.13 kills per set.  The junior followed a career-high 21-kill performance against Fordham with her fifth double-double of the season, recording 20 kills and 11 digs against BIG EAST conference rival St. John’s.

Division III – New England Region
Player of the Week
Shannon Thompson – University of Massachusetts – Boston
Junior, Middle Hitter, Moorpark, Calif.
Thompson picks up her second ECAC Player of the Week honor with a record-breaking week for the Beacons.  Finishing with 4.14 kills per set, 19 blocks and a .433 hitting percentage, the junior set the school record for career kills during a 20-kill performance on Tuesday, finishing the 3-0 win over UMass-Dartmouth with 1,197 career kills.


 

 

Division III – Metro/Upstate Region
Player of the Week
Juleah Vedder – State University of New York Institute of Technology
Senior, Outside Hitter, Dolgeville, N.Y.
The senior Wildcat averaged 5.7 kills and 4.4 digs per set with six service aces, three assists and three blocks in a 3-1 week for SUNYIT.  Vedder recorded her top performance with 24 kills against Penn State – Berks.

Division III – South Region
Player of the Week
Meghan Fahy – Medaille College
Junior, Outside Hitter, Kendall, N.Y.
Fahy became the program’s all-time kills leader with back-to-back 23-kill performances for Medaille. The junior surpassed the previous record of 855 against Mt. Aloysius, recording 862 career kills with the victory.  The junior averaged 5.5 kills and 3.5 digs per set with a .265 hitting percentage in a 1-1 week for the Mavericks.
