PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman middle blocker Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 28. Senior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) was added to the weekly honor roll marking the second straight week that the University of Connecticut volleyball team claimed the rookie honor and had a player selected to the honor roll.
An honor roll pick last week, Anagu earned rookie of the week after hitting .340 in a 2-0 weekend for the Huskies with 23 kills and just seven errors to average 2.88 kills per set. She posted a career-best 17 kills and hit .389 against Seton Hall. Anagu totaled 14 blocks on the weekend, including eight against Rutgers; two of which came solo.
Maving totaled 56 digs (7.00 d/s) starting with 22 in a three-game sweep against the Scarlet Knights on Saturday. She later picked up a season-high 34 in a five-set marathon match with SHU. Maving also dished out five assists and added two service aces.
Connecticut improved to 7-4 in the BIG EAST with two wins at home this weekend and sit alone in fifth place in conference standings with four matches left to play in the regular season. The Huskies return to action on the road next weekend against Marquette and Syracuse.
