UConn Starts Second Half of Home-and-Home Series

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team jumps into the second half of the home-and-home American Athletic Conference series when it travels to Memphis to face the Tigers on Friday, Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. Following the conclusion of the match, the Huskies will head to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats at noon on Sunday, Nov. 1.

UConn (11-10, 5-5 The American) is on a four-game winning streak after sweeping Tulane and Houston for a perfect week. Sophomore Kenya Cason (Columbus, Ohio) paced the Huskies with 12 kills and 13 digs against the Green Wave. Junior Jade Strawberry (Tallahassee, Fla.) contributed 10 kills and 13 digs versus the Cougars to make the Weekly Honor Roll.

The Huskies are 1-5 all-time against the Tigers (14-9, 5-5 The American), including a 3-1 loss on Oct. 4 in Storrs. Senior captain Erika Thomas (Ocoee, Fla.) delivered a 13-kill performance and Cason tallied 11 kills and 10 digs in the setback.

Connecticut trails 5-10 in the all-time series with Cincinnati (14-7, 6-4, The American). Earlier this season, the Huskies took a 3-2 match at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion as four different players tallied double-digit kills. Cason led the way with 16 kills and 15 digs on a .364 hitting percentage. She was followed by Strawberry with 14 kills and 13 digs while sophomore Tosin Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) added 11 kills and classmate Danielle Cabel (Bettendorf, Iowa) had 10 kills.



The Huskies have a 10-2 mark when winning the first set.
