UConn Downs Boston College, 3-1, in Final Regular Season Contest




    CHESTNUT HILL, MA (Nov. 11, 2001) - Sophomore (Ridgecrest, CA) posted 17 kills and 14 digs as the University of Connecticut volleyball team defeated Boston College, 3-1, in its final regular-season contest. With a 21-6 overall and 9-3 record in the BIG EAST, UConn moves on to the BIG EAST Championship, to be held next weekend in Pittsburgh, PA.

    After claiming a 30-26 victory in game one, UConn fell to the Eagles in game two by a score of 27-30. Rachel Bach led the Eagles with a match-high 22 kills. The Huskies responded by dominating Boston College with a .395 attack percentage in game three to roll to the 30-18 victory. UConn then went on to take the fourth game, 30-28, despite hitting only .083.

    Junior (Lancaster, CA) added 12 kills for UConn while sophomore (Marshall, MN) and freshman (Benicia, CA) each posted career highs on defense. Birath had a career-best 10 blocks while Hadenfeldt recorded 18 digs, besting her tally of 17 posted earlier this week against Fairfield.

    Birath and Hadenfeldt each registered nine kills as did sophomore (Stockton, CA). Senior (Fairview Park, OH) had three kills, 52 assists, nine digs and four blocks.

    In addition to Bach’s offensive dominance, Katie Anderson had a double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs for the Eagles. Nancy Legan also chipped in 10 kills while setter Jessica Brizzolara had 56 assists.

    UConn returns to action in the first round of the four-team BIG EAST Championship next weekend in Pittsburgh, PA.
