STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team continues the second half of its league schedule when it hosts American Athletic Conference foe USF on Friday, Nov. 13 at 2:30 p.m. at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion before rounding out the weekend against UCF on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m.
UConn (14-11, 8-6 The American) is coming off a split against Houston and Tulane last weekend, falling to the Mustangs, 3-1, although senior Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) had a stellar showing as she tallied 12 kills on 15 swings for a .733 hitting percentage along with five block assists. On Sunday, junior Jade Strawberry (Tallahassee, Fla.) posted her 10th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 15 digs while Anagu added another 12-kill performance against the Green Wave.
UConn and USF (9-17, 6-8 The American) are tied in the all-time series at 7-7. Earlier this season, senior captain Erika Thomas (Ocoee, Fla.) had 12 kills on a .440 hitting percentage as the Huskies fell in four sets to the Bulls on Sept. 27.
The Huskies are 0-6 all-time against the Knights (14-12, 8-6 The American) in a series that dates back to 1997. In their last meeting, UCF swept the Connecticut in Orlando as Strawberry and sophomore Kenya Cason (Columbus, Ohio) tallied eight kills apiece.
On the national scale, Anagu checks in at No. 78 in the country and second in the conference with 1.17 blocks/set. She also ranks 122nd with 103 total blocks this season. With 420 career blocks, Anagu is just eight blocks away from passing Christine Lambert ’02 to stand third among UConn’s all-time blocks leaders.
The Huskies have been successful in Storrs, compiling an 8-2 mark when playing on its home court.
Connecticut currently stands third in the league behind top-ranked SMU (23-3, 13-1 The American) and Temple (18-8, 9-5 The American).
