DALLAS - The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team will make its final road trip of the season when it heads to Dallas, Texas to challenge SMU on Friday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. before rounding out road action on Sunday, Nov. 23 with a 1 p.m. match against Tulsa.
UConn (10-17) dropped a pair of five-set matches to Temple and East Carolina last week, despite a 2.90 kill/set and .353 hitting percentage from junior middle blocker Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) throughout the week. Senior tri-captain Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) made history, notching her 1000th career dig in the setback. The outsider hitter has registered 981 career digs and is attempting to become just the seventh-ever Husky player to record 1,000 career kills/digs.
As a team, the Huskies rank fourth in the conference with a 16.17 digs/set team mark, while senior libero Brianna Datti (Durham, N.H.) checks in at No. 7 in the conference and 109th nationally with 4.35 digs/set. Anagu's .323 hitting percentage is good for 139th in the nation.
The Mustangs have won the four all-time meetings between the two programs, including a 3-1 victory at Gampel Pavilion on Oct. 26. The Huskies won a back-and-forth first set, 27-25, but couldn't hold momentum, falling in four despite double-digit performances from Maugle and sophomore Jade Strawberry (Tallahassee, Fla.)
The Golden Hurricane and Huskies played their first-ever match on Oct. 24; a 3-0 Tulsa sweep. Camille Evans (Chicago, Ill.) posted a solid night, delivering six kills on eight attempts to go along with a block assist. Tulsa currently stands at No. 3 in the American Athletic Conference standings after compiling an 11-5 mark in league play and a 19-8 overall record.
