STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team will host its final home matches of the 2015 season when it welcomes SMU to Harry A. Gampel Pavilion at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20. The Huskies will conclude play on their home court on Sunday, Nov. 22 with Tulsa at noon for Senior Day.
The Huskies (16-12, 10-7 The American) hope to avenge a pair of road losses earlier this season to both SMU and Tulsa. UConn fell to Temple, 3-1, on Wednesday night. Sophomore Kenya Cason (Columbus, Ohio) paced the team with 12 kills and 18 digs while classmate Tosin Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) added 10 kills on 17 attempts for a .529 hitting percentage.
The Mustangs come to Storrs with a 25-3 record, including a 15-1 mark in conference play. The Huskies trail 6-0 in the all-time series and will be looking to earn their first win against SMU. The Mustangs are the current conference leaders. On Oct. 11, junior Jade Strawberry (Tallahassee, Fla.) had a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs in the 3-0 setback.
Tulsa and UConn met for the first time last year. The Golden Hurricane has amassed a 13-15 (8-8, The American) overall record and sits in sixth in the conference. In October, the Huskies fell in five sets behind 15 digs and 10 kills from Cason and 16 kills by Thomas.
Connecticut has been impressive at home during the 2015 season, holding a 10-2 mark when playing in Gampel.
Anagu and Thomas came to UConn as freshman prior to the 2012 season and have compiled 61 wins during their time in Storrs, including 19 wins in 2012 during UConn’s final season in the Big East Conference. The senior duo has helped lead the Huskies to 16 wins this season, including a first-place finish in the Huskies’ inaugural Dog Pound Challenge this past September.
