The Huskies began conference play in a tough way: on the road. Travel-month September kept us flying all over the place. From Ohio to Kentucky! Ohio meant going back to the roots for our assistant coach Ellen Herman, who graduated from the University of Ohio. Louisville’s gym, however, was not a familiar one. This year, U of L began conference play in the new KFC Yum! Center in downtown Louisville. I think you could fit three Gampel’s in there…yeah, it’s THAT big.

It was here we discovered a hidden talent of our own 6’ 3” Allie Nickel who folded herself into a tiny ball and squeezed into one of the shoe lockers. I still can’t believe my eyes...

Although we had some rough losses to Cincinnati and Louisville, the next weekend we finally got back in Gampel to play on our home court. We played tough games against Marquette and Syracuse, but unfortunately ended up with losses.

Tuesday, however, we hosted Hartford for a little conference break and won in a quick three straight sets! The win was a good way to refocus ourselves for the BIG EAST play still to come, which continues this weekend on the sun-shiny Gulf Coast vs. South Florida!
