WARWICK, R.I. – The UConn women’s cross country team placed six runners in the top-10 on its way to a first-place finish at the Rothenberg Meet Friday afternoon. The title marks the Huskies’ third, first-place finish this season, as UConn nearly posted a perfect score with 16 points.
“We had our best run of the season,” said Head Coach J.J. Clark. “We had great a blend of upperclassmen and freshmen working together to put out a good team effort.”
Junior Haley Hasty turned in her first, first-place finish of the fall with a time of 17:24. Freshmen Brianna O’Brien and Mia Nahom added to their impressive rookie year, as the duo finished in second and third place, respectively, with a time of 17:24. Just tenths of a second separated the trio of UConn runners.
Junior Courtney Akerley’s time of 17:30 garnered a fourth place finish and rounded out the top-five placing in the meet. Two more Huskies’ runners pegged top-10 finishes in sophomore Danielle Jordan (17:31) and freshman Rachel Vick (17:38), who finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
UConn’s Mary Monda Owel (17:58) and Liz Lagoy (18:00) rounded out the top-20 finishers, helping the Huskies in their dominating performance.
UConn is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Philadelphia, Pa. for the American Athletic Conference Championships.
