TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Redshirt-senior captain Lauren Sara (Stratford, Conn.) finished 11th overall to pace the University of Connecticut women's cross country team to a 21st-place team finish at the Indiana State University Pre-Nationals Invitational on Saturday morning. The 6K race was run at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
Sara, a two-time American Athletic Conference Female Athlete of the Week, ran the 6K race in 21:03.6. She was followed up by Emily Durgin (21:28.5), who crossed the finish line in 42nd place. Also posting top-250 results were Abby Mace (22:15.3), Alana Pearl (22:41.8) , Liz Lagoy (22:58.5) and Laura Williamson (23:06.9), who was coming off a team-best 18th-place finish at the New England Championships last week.
The Huskies finished 21st of 43 total teams in the "Blue Race", averaging a 6K time of 22:05.54. Connecticut finished with 598 total points. Georgetown ended the event with the best team score (110), averaging a 21: 09.46 time and claiming three of the top-20 overall individual finishers.

"It was a great run for Lauren Sara, showing great consistency and team leadership," said UConn women's track and field head coach J.J. Clark. "We were able to beat some good team, finishing 21st of 43 teams. Overall, it was a great experience for our team going forward. Now we turn our attention to the championship portion of the season."
The Huskies will have 13 days off before heading to Tulsa, Okla. to take part in the second-ever American Athletic Conference Championships. The squad will be looking to improve on a third-place finish in 2013.
