    Final Results

    MADISON, Conn.  - The University of Connecticut women's cross country captured second place at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday afternoon at Hammonasset State Park. The Huskies automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships as the top two teams of each regional stamp their ticket to Louisville, Ky. for the Championships. This marks the first time that the program will participate in the Championships as a team.

    The Huskies claimed the silver seat with 67 points coming in second to BIG EAST foe Providence (46 points). The squad had its top five competitors finish in the Top-25 which earns the student-athletes a spot on the Northeast All-Region Team. Juniors Allison Lasnicki and Lauren Sara, sophomore Lindsay Crevooiserat, senior Shauna McNiff and freshman Julia Zrinyi were all named to the All-Region team.  

    Once again leading the way for the Huskies was Lasnicki who crossed the finish line third out of 250 runners. Lasnicki concluded the 6K in a time of 19:59.4.  

    Next to finish the race was Sara in 10th place in 20:17.1, while Crevoiserat was right behind her fellow Husky in the 14th seat in a time of 20:20.2.

    Rounding out the scoring Huskies was McNiff in 18th posting a mark of 20:26.8 and Zrinyi in 22nd after ending the race with a time of 20:39.2.

    “This result verified the level of confidence, composure and belief they have developed throughout the season. Andrea [Grove-McDonough] had them prepared to carry out her vision for the meet - she and the team were magnificent - a spectacular moment for the program,” Bill Morgan, supervisor of cross country/track and field, said.

    The Huskies will head to Louisville for the NCAA Championship on Saturday, November 17 with the race beginning at noon at Tom Sawyer State Park.
