STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women’s cross country team is set to begin its 2014 campaign on Friday, Aug. 31 when it travels to Reading, Pa. to take part in the Lights Out Invitational at 8:15 p.m.
The Huskies will send 10 student-athletes to the 4K event, headlined by the return on redshirt-senior Lauren Sara (Stratford, Conn.), who missed the 2013 campaign with an injury. Four Huskies, Maggie Christie, Katie Foley, Liz Lagoy, and Alana Pearl will be making their first collegiate appearances.
Overall, UConn enters the season with a roster of 19, including eight newcomers. Connecticut will be looking to improve on its third-place finish in the American Athletic Conference and 11th-place finish in the Northeast Regional Championships.
Head coach Amy Begley returns for a second season at the helm of the program and will work with J.J. Clark as the Huskies enter their second season in The American.
