STORRS, Conn. – University of Connecticut junior Lauren Sara was tabbed the BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Sara opened the 2012 campaign with a bang taking home second place at the Dartmouth Invitational with a time of 21:23.50. The junior finished second to Dartmouth’s Abbey D’Agostino, who placed third at the NCAA Cross Country Championship a year ago.
“It’s great to have the BIG EAST recognize the outstanding efforts of Lauren. She’s a tremendous leader for our team, not just in her performance, but her inspiring work ethic and support of her teammates,” stated head coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. “I know that Lauren will consider this honor one she shares with her entire team.”
Connecticut will return to competition on Saturday, September 22 at the CCSU Ted Owens Invitational. The race will begin at 11 a.m. at the Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
