STORRS, Conn.- The UConn women’s cross country team returns to action on Saturday, September 22 at 11 a.m. at the CCSU Ted Owen Invitational. The meet will take place at the Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
The Huskies had a week off following a fourth place finish at the Dartmouth Invitational. Leading the way for Connecticut was junior Lauren Sara who finished a team-best second place in 21:23.50. The only student-athlete to beat Sara to the finish line was returning All-American and national champion Abbey D’Agostino. This top tier performance earned Sara her second career BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
The Huskies, currently ranked seventh in the Northeast Region, will also look to Allison Lasnicki and returning veteran Brigitte Mania for guidance on Saturday. Lasnicki posted a fourth place finish at the Dartmouth Invitational with a time of 21:23.70 as she was the second Husky to reach the end of the race. Mania, a track and field All-American for UConn, returns to the course after not competing at Dartmouth.
Other teams competing in this weekend’s 5K race are the hosting Blue Devils, Bentley, Fairleigh Dickinson, Franklin Pierce, Hartford, Marist, Northeastern, Rhode Island, SCSU and Wagner.
Following the Ted Owens Invitational, Connecticut will compete at the prestigious Griak Invite at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, September 29 at 1 p.m.
