The University of Connecticut women’s cross team grabbed an 18th-place finish in the 2014 New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The 5K race marked the Huskies’ final tune-up before next weekend’s ISU Pre-Nationals Terre Haute, Ind.

Individually, Laura Williamson took 27th-place with a time of 18:13.35. The junior ran at a 5:52.0 mile pace. Next up, redshirt-freshman Maggie Christe crossed the line in 90th place (18:52.42) before redshirt-junior Terra Briody earned a 121st-place finish (19:05.87).

Earlier this week, the UConn coaching staff announced that it would rest many of the team’s top-performers as Pre-Nationals and the American Athletic Conference Championship approach later in October.

In addition to the top-3 finishers, Katie Foley (19:14.39), Kat Vodopia (19:27.05), and Lily D’Agostino (19:50.11) each placed in the top-200.

Overall, UConn finished with 468 points and ran the 5K in an average time of 18:52.57. New Hampshire won the title for a second-consecutive year.

45 teams from across Division I, II, and III made their way to Boston for the 100th anniversary of the historic meet. It also marked UConn’s second straight race in Beantown and its third in Massachusetts this season.

Connecticut will have a quick turnaround as it before to head to Indiana for the ISU Pre-Nationals set for Oct. 18 at 11 a.m.
