NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (October 25, 2008) – The University of Connecticut women’s cross country team finished third of 14 teams at the Central Connecticut State University mini meet in New Britain, Conn. on Saturday afternoon.
"We (coaching staff) are really pleased on our performance today," said head coach Bill Morgan. "This is what we needed before heading into the championship season."
The Huskies were led by sophomores Leah Andrianos (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and Meghan Bowden, who were the Huskies' top two finishers on the afternoon. Andrianos finished in 11th place with a time of 11:30 while Bowden took 12th, finishing at a time of 11:34, just after her teammate.
Boston University won the meet with 49 points, led by Sara Mosser, the meet's first place finisher, and Katie Bauler, who took third. Providence College finished in second place with 54 points as UConn rounded out the top three teams with 76 points.
This meet was a definite upswing from last weekend," said distance coach Andrea-Grove-McDonough. "The team responded really well to their heavy load, training wise, last week and I think that when they get rested and their legs back under them that they are going to see some of their best performances of the year at exactly the time we need them (heading into the BIG EAST Championship."
The Huskies will set their sights on the BIG EAST Championship which will be held in New York, N.Y. on Friday, Oct. 31.
