TULSA, Okla. – The University of Connecticut women’s cross country team will compete for the 2014 American Athletic Conference Championship on Friday, Oct. 31 at the Mohawk Sports Complex in Tulsa, Okla. The 6K race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET.

The American Digital Network will provide live coverage of the women’s race. The coverage is completely free of charge and available on desktop, mobile and tablet devices. To access the video feed, CLICK HERE.

The Huskies claimed third-place in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championships a year ago at Hammonasset State Park. Emily Durgin (Portland, Maine) finished third overall with a time of 20:25.88 to pace the team to a 79-point finish.  SMU recorded five top-ten runners to take first place with 29 points.

"Last year, we were third in the conference and only graduated one runner," said coach Amy Begley. "We hope to improve on that. We have a healthy Lauren Sara back leading the team, along with Emily Durgin. Abby Mace and Laura Williamson were on the conference team last year and bring that experience to give us more depth. Our two freshman, Alana Pearl and Liz Lagoy make our pack stronger. They are running with upper classmen and not afraid to compete. We are excited to Friday."

This season, redshirt-senior Lauren Sara (Stratford, Conn.) has been one of the league’s most consistent runners, earning back-to-back Female Athlete of the Week accolades on Sept. 2 and Sept. 16. Most recently, Sara led the Huskies with an 11-place finish at the ISU Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.

Sara was followed up by Durgin (21:28.5), who crossed the finish line in 42nd place. Also posting top-250 results were Abby Mace (22:15.3), Alana Pearl (22:41.8) , Liz Lagoy (22:58.5) and Laura Williamson (23:06.9), who was coming off a team-best 18th-place finish at the New England Championships last week.
