    Casilli Competes at NCAA Championship

    FURMAN, SC (Nov. 19, 2001) -- Running in her first NCAA Championship, sophomore (Jamaica Plain, MA) finished 128th out of 249 runners at the NCAA Women’s Cross Country Championship Monday afternoon at Furman University. Casilli was UConn women’s cross country’s only competitor in the meet.

    Capping off a standout season in which she garnered All-NCAA District I and All-BIG EAST honors, Casilli ran 22:22 to place 128th. Tara Chaplin of Arizona won the event with a time of 20:24, while Renee Metivier of Georgia Tech, Lauren Fleshman of Stanford, Kristin Price of N.C. State and Michaela Manova of Brigham Young rounded out the top-five individual finishers, respectively.

    Brigham Young won the team title with 62 points.

    Casilli was only the second women’s cross country runner in UConn history to compete at the NCAA Championship. Danyelle Wood finished 34th for the Huskies in 1996.
