JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The UConn baseball team (4-1) earned its first series win with an 11-0 drubbing of North Florida on Saturday afternoon at Dusty Rhodes Field.

The Huskies utilized a six-run fifth inning to break the game open and give UConn starter Pat Gallagher plenty of breathing room.

The Leominster, Mass. native didn't need much run support as he fired seven shutout frames with just three hits allowed and nine punch outs to nab his first win of the season.

2 YR FR Bryan Padilla shined in his collegiate debut with a three-hit day that included a two-run single in the 11-batter fifth inning. David Smith followed with a two-run single of his own to push the UConn lead to 6-0.

The Huskies totaled 14 hits on the day with Padilla, Matt Garbowski, Ben Huber and Erik Stock all recording multi-hit games.

Hector Alejandro and Braden Quinn each fired scoreless frames to lock down the third straight win for the Huskies.

UConn will go for the sweep on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. with Enzo Stefanoni taking the mound for the Huskies.

Game Notes

· Pat Gallagher tied a career-high with 7.0 shutout innings and nine strikeouts.

· The Huskies recorded their last shutout victory since beating Boston College, 12-0, in 2021.

· The Huskies are off to a 4-1 start to open the season. It's the best start for UConn since starting 4-1 in 2010.

· Bryan Padilla, Braden Quinn, Ryan Hyde and Zach Stephenson all made their UConn debuts on Saturday.
