Softball Powers Past Creighton in Series Opener

OMAHA, Neb. – The UConn softball team (29-11) beat the Creighton Blue Jays (18-25), 5-1 on Friday afternoon. Lexi Hastings led the way on offense with two home runs, giving her five multi-RBI games this season.
Hope Jenkins earned her team high 12th win of the season in the circle. She tossed six scoreless innings, adding three strikeouts to her dominant performance.
Hastings gave UConn an early lead in the first inning, as she opened the game with a leadoff home run, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
UConn added an insurance run in the fourth inning as Taylor Zatyk delivered a single to left field, scoring Rosie Garcia.
The Huskies scored three runs in the seventh inning, sending all nine batters to the plate. Two runs came off the bat of Hastings as she hit her second home run of the game, putting the game out of reach for Creighton. Later in the inning, Hope Jenkins worked a bases loaded walk, extending the lead to 5-0.
Meghan O'Neil came in relief for Jenkins to close out the win, finishing with two strikeouts.
Game time for Saturday has been moved to 3:00pm EST. UConn will look to secure their sixth straight series win.
