BIO INFORMATION ENTERING 2005-06 SEASON
In the summer of 2005: Competed during the summer as a member of the 2005
USA Men’s U21 World Championship team... Averaged 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds
in eight games, starting three contests... Also led the team with 12 blocked
shots... Reached double figures in five of eight games, including one
double-double.
As a Freshman in 2004-05: Named the 2004-05 National Freshman of the
Year by The Sporting News... 2004-05 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and a unanimous
All-Rookie Team selection... Appeared in all 31 games, starting the last 26...
Was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week five times... Averaged 11.8 points and
5.4 rebounds... Reached double figures a team-leading 22 times... Scored 17
points and blocked three shots in the NCAA First Round win over Central
Florida... Had 17 points in the BIG EAST quarterfinal vs. Georgetown and a
career-high six blocks in the semifinal vs. Syracuse... Had a career-best 20
points, three blocks and three steals in the win over Georgetown... Named the
BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on February 28 after scoring a team-high 17 points
in the win at Pittsburgh... Named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on February 21
after registering ten points and a career-best six assists in the win at Rutgers
and 15 points and four assists in the win at Providence... Had a career-high
tying 18 points in the win at Syracuse... Named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week
on February 7... Had 17 points and nine rebounds in the win over Villanova...
Had a career-best 18 points, seven boards, three assists and four blocks in a
career-high 37 minutes in the win at Seton Hall... Named the BIG EAST Rookie of
the Week on January 3... Made his first career start in the win over Rice,
scoring ten points and grabbing nine rebounds... Named the BIG EAST Rookie of
the Week on December 6... Had 11 points and ten boards for his first career
double-double in the win over Indiana... Led the Huskies in scoring during the
six exhibition games, averaging 15.0 points per contest, 15.5 during the British
Tour, including more than 20 points on two occasions.
Before UConn: Consensus First-Team All-American and widely regarded as
the top-rated high school player in the country who attended college... Played
for the USA Basketball Junior National Select team in April at the 2004 NCAA
Final Four... Washington D.C.-Area Player of the Year... Averaged 21.2 points,
9.2 rebounds, 3.7 blocks and 1.6 steals as a senior... Averaged 14.1 points, 6.9
rebounds, blocked 85 shots and had 46 steals as a junior... All-State,
All-County and All-Metro performer... Was the No. 1 rated player at the Nike
All-American Camp in the summer of 2003.
