Softball sweeps Bowling green in thrilling fashion

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The UConn softball team (4-4) beat Bowling Green (3-6) 4-3 on Sunday morning. Sophomore Rosie Garcia delivered the big hit for the Huskies with a two run triple to walk it off over the Falcons. This is Garcia's second walk-off hit in her UConn career.
Hope Jenkins started in the circle for the Huskies going 3.2 innings with three strikeouts. Delaney Nagy came in relief for Jenkins in the fourth inning. In 1.1 innings of work, she only gave up two hits with a strikeout. Meghan O'Neil finished the final two innings keeping the Falcons scoreless. O'Neil was credited with the win.
The Huskies opened the scoring in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Hope Jenkins to score Savannah Ring giving UConn an early 1-0 lead.
The Falcons tied the game in the third inning and went on to take a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning. UConn got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a Lexi Hastings infield single to score pinch runner Haley Coupal.
Bowling Green added another run in the fifth to make it 4-2. UConn once again, chipped away at the Falcons lead as Taylor Zatyk hit a sacrifice fly to score Hope Jenkins making it 4-3.
In the bottom of the seventh Grace Jenkins kick started the Huskies offense with a single up the middle. Jana Sanden added another single after Jenkins to put the winning run on base. The runners would tag up on a Hope Jenkins fly ball to center field moving them into scoring position. Garcia was the hero with a blast to left center splitting the two outfielders and scoring the tying and winning runs.
UConn returns to action next Friday as they travel to Greensboro, NC for the UNCG Invitational.
